SURG is short for “Suppressed Upper Receiver Group.” Sig Sauer was recently tapped to provide the upper for USSCOM. There were, however, other contenders in the running.
At an exhibition in Warsaw, Poland, Lewis Machine & Tool (LMT) featured their contender for the recent $48 million dollar SURG contract.
Translating from Polish from MilMag, The LMT CSW, meaning “confined space weapon” has a 7″ 300 Blackout barrel with a suppressor attached underneath the handguard. This ends up bringing the OAL to 12″.
The article notes that this design helps protect the operator of the firearm from burns, but also protects accompanying working dogs.
Head on over if you can read Polish, want to copy and paste text into Google Translate…or if you simply just want to check a very nice gallery of detailed pics of this very cool looking SURG submission.
